Billy Corgan Covers Sharon Van Etten and Performs New Songs On Opening Night of Solo Tour

Billy Corgan, frontman of post-grunge superpower The Smashing Pumpkins has opened his solo tour with a slew of new material as well as a new cover of Sharon Van Etten song “Every Time the Sun Comes Up.” and Jimmy Dickens’ “Another Bridge to Burn”.

Corgan opened with 8 new tracks from his recently announced double-album Cotillions. This was the first time these songs have been played to an American audience. The second half his first 3 shows were dedicated to Corgan’s previous works with Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan.

Corgan has made strides to separate himself from his past iterations with the Pumpkins with his new solo album which will be released under his full name William Patrick Corgan.

In 2017, Corgan embarked on a cross country trip across the US. His mini document, which talks about his experiences, was released just yesterday debuts a new, softer approach.

“No Highways, just state roads and small towns across America.” The video reads and the new acoustic sound is reminiscent of the long spacious scenery that one might encounter when embarking on such a journey.

“I just drove across the country. 30 days, small towns. I just kinda reconnected with North America.” Corgan explains in his new video “Thirty Days: Revisted/ Billy Corgan’s Cotillions.”

“There’s definitely a southern gothic that revolves around my family’s tragedies that has definitely been hard to overcome.”

“Anytime I’m in a studio where there is history or records were made where I was influenced by the artist, it’s not so much the ghosts of the place, I’m more struck by there is something about the place that seems better and I start to relate to why there were so many great records that attracted these artists. The walls can talk a lot. Music is a reflection of whatever”
