U.K. Pop star, Dua Lipa, debuts her “dancey” new track, “Don’t Start Now.” This jumpy new single was produced by Ian Kirkpatrick and is set to be featured on Lipa’s second studio album. She said she chose to release this song first so she could close out one chapter of her life and begin a new one. Dua Lipa states that she’s headed “Into a new era with a new sound! It’s about moving on and not allowing anyone to get in the way of that. It also felt like a natural first song choice as I made it with the brilliant same crew I made ‘New Rules’ with.”
The music video starts out with Lipa and her two friends hanging out in the club before eventually finding themselves outside where Dua Lipa throws the camera down and groans angrily. Then suddenly the screen goes black and a 5 hours earlier text pops up on the screen, then out of nowhere Dua’s voice sings “Did a full 180” kicking off the catchy break-up anthem. The song’s upbeat dance feel instrumental combined with the empowering post-breakup lyrics create the vibe that moving on is as easy as playing this song. Dua does her best to get over her ex in this video by dancing in the club with her friends before finding herself in a masquerade party, truly depicting the free spirited individual the song is encouraging. You can hear her new break-up anthem, “Don’t Start Now,” below.
Ever since her self-titled debut album hit the charts in 2017, Dua Lipa has become a major name in the music industry. Winning Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording (“Electricity” with Silk City) as well as performing with St. Vincent at the award ceremony. She was even ranked at number 20 in Pitchfork’s Top 20 Pop and R&B Albums of 2017. Although no official release date has been set for her new album, if the project is anything like her “Don’t Start Now” single, than she is no doubt going to repeat the success of her debut album.
