Tacocat have debuted a new single celebrating the Mercury Retrograde, which will take place from today until November 20th, for the final time this year. This new track, aptly titled “Retrograde,” clocks in at barely under two minutes, but stays true to the band’s indie punk style with pounding drums, catchy guitar hook, along with their loud and soft musical dynamics.
When Mercury is in retrograde, the planet appears move in an opposite direction to planet Earth, meaning that it it seems to move from west-to-east temporarily, which is different from the normal east-to-west movements planets make. This movement is just an illusion however, as the planet is simply just moving more slowly than earth. Traditionally, most superstitious people associate Mercury’s retrograde as causing crashed computers, missed flights or tensions in the workplace.
Tacocat debuted their recent album release This Mess Is A Place, earlier this year, which was backed by the singles “Hologram,” and “The Joke of Life.” This latest album project was noted for its upbeat and pop inspired approach to independent punk music, with an ample amount of subversive lyrics that critique multiple social issues on a deep listen.
