My Chemical Romance will be reuniting for the first time in six years, at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California, on Friday December 20th. The band announced this show on social media with the caption “Like Phantoms Forever…” in reference to their debut 2002 EP of the same name. Tickets will go on-sale this Friday at 12:00 p.m. PDT.
The band originally announced their break-up in 2013, a month after their compilation album Conventional Weapons, which saw five separate releases between 2012-2013. This compilation was the band’s last foray into original music prior to their break-up and contained 10 songs that the band recorded in 2009.
The group had their classic 2006 album The Black Parade, reissued back in 2016 in support of the album’s 10th anniversary. The band’s hit single “Welcome To The Black Parade,” launched the group in to the mainstream, and helped the album achieve massive commercial and critical success upon its release.
My Chemical Romance’s frontman Gerard Way has embarked on a solo career since the break-up of the group, and released his solo debut album Hesitant Alien back in 2014. During the past couple of years Way has released tracks such as “Baby You’re A Haunted House,” and faithful cover of the Turtles’ hit “Happy Together.” Way will also be scoring the upcoming film Clerks 3, the second sequel in the Kevin Smith directed Clerks series, which are a pair of classic independent stoner comedy films.
