Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has released an animated music video for “Last I Heard (…He Was Circling The Drain)” from his latest studio album project Anima. This latest project was created by the Brooklyn-based experimental studio Art Camp, and was made up of over 3000 hand-illustrated frames.
“Last I Heard (…He Was Circling The Drain),” takes place in a retro-futuristic dream world made from fragments of Yorke and Stanley Donwood’s imaginations. The black and white video shows various shots of flying cars, people walking through crowded skyscrapers and people in space suits. At the end of the video, a shot of a singular figure in a space suit is shown, as the world around the figure begins to disintegrate.
“Our first and last goal was to serve the feelings of the song and the record. Thom shared a list of visions with us, disconnected images from his dreams, and we expanded on it with visions from everyone who joined the video team, over a dozen of us,” Art Camp explained in a press release. “At its core, our intention was to communicate the experience of feeling completely on your own, surrounded by people you see yourself in but don’t understand, who have lost their minds to the city and can’t see that you need their help.”
Clips of this latest project were first shown throughout the ANIMA Technologies’ offices, which recently opened its L.A. offices with a three-day immersive first look event. The website for the company hosts dream reports, and a verified office space in Los Angeles, however little else is known about the company.
Yorke will be touring next spring in New York City, along with several locations across Europe.
