Torres, the indie musical project helmed by musician Mackenzie Scott, has announced a new album entitled Silver Tongue, which will be on January 31st via Merge records. This will be the artist’s fourth studio album over all, but her first on Merge records, and is backed by a lead single entitled “Good Scare.”
“Good Scare,” begins with a light percussion instrumental, opening up with Scott’s sweet voice, before the rest of the instrumentals including drums, strings, bass and synths are added in. Scott gives a powerful vocal performance, discussing themes of a love that is close to home.
“Regarding ‘Good Scare,’ I guess I could say that falling in love is a lot like the Superman crawl,” Scott explained in a press release. “If you’re not familiar with Superman’s crawl, it’s a terrifying maneuver used in spelunking that’s only performed when certain passages are too narrow, so a person has to hold one arm against the body and the other above the head, all while trying to crawl forward. When you fall in love with someone, it’s scary like the Superman’s crawl, but you have no choice but to keep moving forward even though you have no idea what’s ahead of you.”
Scott teased this project back in June, when it was announced that she had signed with Merge records, and was planning an album release for 2020. She also performed at the SoundMind Mental Health Benefit at Rough Trade in New York City, which also held a performance from Americana singer-songwriter Langhorne Slim. She is also planning a tour next month with Superchunk.
