Kesha Parodies Televangelists in New “Raising Hell” Video and Announces New Album High Road for January 2020 Release

Pop artist Kehsa has released a new single, along with a strong parody of Televangelists for her latest music video “Raising Hell,” which features hip hop and bounce pioneer Big Freedia. This latest song is set to be featured on Kesha’s upcoming album High Road, which will be released on January 10 via Kemosabe/RCA Records, and holds features from artists such as Sturgill Simpson and Brian Wilson.

“Raising Hell,” is an upbeat pop banger, taking banging pop production, with samples of gospel choirs underlining the instrumental, giving the track an extra layer to the hypocrisies the track is condemning. The video shows Kesha in a large upscale mansion, throwing a party with a gospel choir in the background, parodying the rich life that Televangelists often lead. Toward the end of the video, she kills her abusive spouse, which may be a nod to some of the real life disputes the performer is currently involved with.

This latest single follows Kesha’s previous two releases “Here Comes The Change,” and “Rich White Straight Me,” which both carry strong political undertones.

“Here Comes The Change,” is a strong and powerful acoustic feminist anthem channeling 1960s protests sonmg, which will be featured in the upcoming movie about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Gisburg, titled On the Basis of Sex. This track was written by Kesha, Drew Pearson and Stephen Wrabel, specifically for the film.

Her single “Rich, White, Straight, Men,” takes on a more political tone with punk inspired lyrics, and a pop instrumental that parodies musicals. Her track launches back against a rise of racism, xenophobia, sexism and homophobia, that dominate certain circles of the right-wing American political discourse.

This release comes at a difficult time for Kesha, who is engaged with 5 year long battle to be released from her record label Kemosabe, owned by producer Dr. Luke. This latest record is being released on the label, although it is unknown how many more projects she may have to release before she can leave the label.
