Wire Announces New Album Mind Hive for January 2020 Release and Share New Song “Cactused”

Post-punk legends Wire have announced a new album entitled Mind Hive, which will be released on January 24th 2020 via their own record label Pinkflag. In addition to this new album, the band have debuted a new single entitled “Cactused,” along with an accompanying music video.

“Cactused,” takes a more pop-styled approach with moments of energy bursts among the songs instrumentals, which take have moments of heavier bass and guitar moments, while Colin Newman and Graham Lewis take on vocal responsibilities. The video shows the band going across the UK countryside, and recording at home in a studio, creating a more humble aesthetic to this recent single.

The band’s Pink Flag, Chairs Missing & 154 Reissues were released last year, which displayed some of the most influential moments from the band’s discography. Mike Watt and members of Wire debuted the new project FITTED, with their debut album set to be released next month.

Wire is also set to premiere their film People In A Film, next spring. The trailer for this upcoming crowdfunded project can be seen below.

Newman is also part of the electronic duo Immersion with his wife Malka Spiegel, who is the bassist of the band Minimal Compact. Both artists debuted the project as part of London’s burgeoning techno scene in the 1990s.

“So working together is just an extension of everything we do,” Newman explained in his interview with mxdwn. That’s not to belittle anybody not in a relationship, it’s just a lot easier. Sometimes being in a band with people that you actually aren’t in a relationship with can be quite hard work. Because you are in a kind of relationship, but it’s one in which there are, like Malka said, barriers and tensions.”
