Bring Me the Horizon Debuts Music Video for “In the Dark” Starring Forest Whitaker

British Deathcore band Bring Me the Horizon dropped a music video for their single “In The Dark,” featuring Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor Forest Whitaker. Putting Forest Whitaker and Bring Me the Horizon together is entirely experimental, but the unexpected sparks ignited by the bizarre mixture are wonderful.

Frontman/lead vocalist Oliver Sykes co-directed the video alongside director/producer Brian Cox. In a press release, Sykes billed the video as his “first ‘official’ directing effort.” He shared the story behind the “everyone-who-said-it-was-impossible” shoot. He revealed Whitaker accepted the starring invitation three days before the actual shooting. After hearing the acceptance, Sykes and Cox immediately packed their equipment and flew to London. The crew started shooting two days later.

“In The Dark” is the fourth track from Bring Me the Horizon’s new album, Amo. “Amo” literally means “love” in Portuguese. Under such context, “In The Dark” breaks down a bittersweet love story to the masses. Musically, it’s not your typical rock-heavy single but a more heavy pop ballad. Through the lyrics and music, the sinister pop ballad explores the pain from the standpoint of a love story about unfaithfulness.

The new music video for ‘In The Dark’ is piping hot out the oven. In the video, Whitaker, the main character is the subject of neurological experiments from a group of sinister scientists. Through digging out Whitaker’s memory, there is chaos to be found, loneliness and struggles hidden in the man’s mind. Using tight shots, the video captures Whitaker’s struggles and visibly painful expressions, from bursting into tears to screaming with rage. While the video demonstrates a man overtaken by pain, the music gradually grows into rich synth-laced melodies, electronic traps and percussion instruments. The video ends with Whitaker waking from his painful dream.

“In The Dark” is another sonic painting that the Sheffield four-piece forms on multi-genres, from rock to alternative-pop to melodic metalcore. Take a look at the other two music videos, “Wonderful Life” and “Medicine” from Amo.  Check out the “In The Dark” music video below.

Bring Me the Horizon’s next release “Ludens” will be found in Death Stranding: Timefall, a new original soundtrack series for the videogame Death Stranding. Death Stranding: Timefall will be released by RCA Records on November 7th.
