Band adds fire to album
Metal and Christian band The Devil Wears Prada have been performing for quite a while. The band formed in Dayton, Ohio in 2005 and in 2006 they released their first album titled Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord. In 2007 the album Plagues was released and in 2009 the album With Roots Above and Branches Below was released. Then, in 2011 the album Dead Throne made its appearance and it became a huge milestone for the band. In 2013 their album 8:8 was released and in 2016 their most recent album Transit Blues was unleashed. Now, The Devil Wears Prada is back with a new album titled The Act. This record is brilliant and unique because of how the harmonic musical tunes collided into the metal music to create impactful music listeners can relate to. The musical composition on this album is fantastic because guitarists Jeremy DePoyster and Kyle Sipress provide the album with an electric vibe of metalcore guitar and harmonic tunes and bass guitarist Andy Trick does a great job with providing wonderful bass guitar riffs. Also, vocalist Mike Hranica wrote the songs for the album which is great because most of the songs do have a deeper meaning and his vocal style is raw, pure and harmonic with a touch of grunge. This record exceeds expectations and fans of the band along with fans of the genre should give this album a try.
The Act is an unique album because when listening it feels like there are two sides of music. On one side is great metal mixed with harmony and on the other side is straight harmonic music. On this album there is a song titled “Diamond Lost” and what is seemingly wonderful about this track is how the lyrics speak for themselves. While looking at the lyrics, it seems like a song people can relate to because at some point in our lives we do feel lost and we are constantly looking for that diamond we have lost through the journey of life and the diamond could be a symbol of losing a person through grief or through other situations. The musical structure for “Lost Diamond” is creative because the vocals from DePoyster and Hranica help introduce the song, and then Hranica starts to sing and shriek out the lyrics in desperation. The bass guitar is great on this track because the low rumbles comes out from the background to create in-depth musical tunes with the rest of the band. DePoyster’s and Sipress’s guitar skills are great because they add on to the harmonic vibe of the song and DePoyster continues to sing with a low and authoritative voice while Hranica sings with sadness while shrieking. Overall, the song is a favorite and it will be interesting to see what fans think of this song.
Another song that adds fire to the album is titled “Please Say No” and again the lyrics speak for themselves and the musical structure is different from “Diamond Lost.” Being able to write a song is a skill and Hranica did a great job writing this one because the emotions can be felt throughout the song. While listening, Hranica vocals are loud and grungy with regret and sadness because he doesn’t want to lose the woman he loves to another guy. Judging the way Hranica’s vocal style sounds, he wants to have one more wish but at the same time, it feels like he is saying goodbye go the woman he still loves. The musical structure is unique because all of the band members play a light and harmonic tune but before the song ends Jeremy’s lead guitar solo lights up the song and it lights up the emotions of regret and sadness. In some ways, the guitar solo brings a sense of goodbye while playing because the electrifying sound indicates to listeners that Hranica is willing to say goodbye if the subject of the song moves on with her life. Overall, this song adds more fuel to the fire on the album.
The song “Spiderhead” lights up The Act because the song screams metal music and the meaning of the lyrics is harder to decipher. The song is raw with loud lead guitars playing an energetic tune which will cause the listeners to bang their heads to the music, the bass guitar can be heard blissfully rumbling a bittersweet sound with the rest of the guitar music and the vocals are erratic due to the authoritative shrieking of words. Toward the ending of the song, DePoyster and Trick start to play rather unique guitar music which leaves a lasting impression while listening. What captures attention is how Hranica’s vocals are able to tell a story about evil and he does a great job. As for the lyrics, it is unclear what the song is about but judging by what can be deciphered, the song seems to be about an evil person. Perhaps fans and listeners can try to figure out the meaning behind the song. The Act is a great album that provides the right touch of metal and harmonic music. The Devil Wears Prada is on tour and it should be a great show to see because without a doubt the songs on the album will sound fantastic live.
