Lee “Scratch” Perry and Brian Eno Collaborate on New Dub Track “Here Come the Warm Dreads”

Dub and reggae legend Lee “Scratch Perry and pioneering electronic and ambient music producer Brian Eno have debuted a new collaborative dub track entitled “Here Come the Warm Dreads.” This track is a reference to the 1974 Eno album Here Come the Warm Jets, along with the title track of the same name.

“Here Come the Warm Dreads,” opens up with a pounding bassline and horn sections, complimented by the dub rhythms and plenty of stereo sounds, that switch from left to right throughout the track. The track is a tribute to the old dub tracks, while utilizing modern stereo production techniques, and bits of experimentation highlighting both artists eclectic styles.

“When we approached Brian about working on a track he didn’t hesitate and said he would happily do something with Lee Scratch Perry,” Adrian Sherwood said in a statement. “We worked together on a quick dub version of the track and took what was a crazy tune even further out there. I have always wanted to do something with Brian and hopefully there will be more opportunity in the future.”

This latest track is from Heavy Rain, a  dub companion album to Perry’s recent 2019 release Rainford, made between Perry and Adrian Sherwood. “Whether people wind up liking the music or not, Rainford is a confusing, head-scratching, and fun album from a guy who’s spent eight decades perfecting the unpredictable,” mxdwn reviewer Arnim Whisler explained.

While Eno is not yet an octogenarian like Perry yet, the 71 year-old is also still putting out music consistently to this day. He released Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks – Extended Edition, earlier this year.
