Exene Cervenka’s Son Stars in Video for “Delta 88 Nightmare,” X’s First New Original Song in 24 Years

Influential LA punk band X has returned with a new song entitled “Delta 88 Nightmare,” their first new track in over 24 years. The track is being released as a 7-inch single featuring the song “Cyrano de Berger’s Back,” as its B-Side, and has also been released on various streaming platforms, alongside a music video for the track, starring the son of frontwoman Exene Cervenka, Henry Mortensen, who also directed the visual.

“Delta 88 Nightmare” shows various shots of old Los Angeles and New Los Angeles, between classic black and white to modern day color shots. A couple are shown dancing in their living room, and exploring the city as this high energy classic punk track plays in the banckground.

This is the band’s first new song since the release of “The Stage” and “Lying in the Road,” which were both featured in the live album Unclogged, back in 1995. They also released a set of Christmas covers a decade ago, for a compilation 7-inch entitled Merry Xmas from X.

This is however the most recent song by the band’s original line-up in 34 years, as they last recorded together in 1985 for the Ain’t Love Grand!. “Delta 88 Nightmare,” was originally released back in 2001, as a demo featured as part of the bonus tracks for the band’s reissue of their debut album Los Angeles.

X have shared updates on their social media this year, showing their progress recording new material with the original line-up, with five new songs recorded over the course of two days with producer Rob Schnapf. The band will also be embarking on their X-Mas ’19 holiday tour later this year as well.
