American synth pop band Poliça have announced a new album entitled When We Stay Alive, which will be released on January 31 via Memphis Industries. In addition to this new album, the group have debuted two new tracks “Driving,” and “trash in bed,” and announced a performance at Eaux Claires Hiver, a spinoff festival of Eaux Claires, the festival founded by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and The National’s Aaron Dessner.
“Driving” features an infectious bass and experimental synth line giving the track an alternative pop feel, with wonky electronic drum rhythms forming the full sound. A brief visual, which shows a record player spinning a vinyl record as the room burns up around it accompanies this song.
“trash in bed,” serves as the B-side for “Driving” and features a more traditionally dance oriented sound, with house high hats and a big room bassline. This club ready dance anthem captures an entirely different side of the group compared to its wonkier A-side.
“Laying in bed, as I healed from a 10 foot fall of carelessness with my life, I would dream of running in green grass and tears would pour from my eyes. ‘Running in the tall tear grass; imagine wanting life and the want remains,” the band’s frontwoman Channy Leaneagh stated regarding the song. “That is a feeling to hold onto; that life is worth living even when all the towers are crumbling and this goes beyond my own little accident but the world around me. Following the crone into the sinking ship and having the chance to return without a shadow. Drive on, Drive on. A second chance you won’t forget.”
Leaneagh launched a GoFundMe recovery fund, after suffering from a fall which broke her back earlier this year. This occurred while the performer was attempting to remove the forming ice dams that were occupying the roof of her house.
Last year the band teamed up with s t a r g a z e for the track “Music For The Long Emergency” which was featured as one of mxdwn’s best songs of 2018.
