Detroit rapper Danny Brown has come back with another single entitled “3 Tearz,” featuring an all star cast including hip hop duo Run The Jewels on the verses and experimental hip hop artist JPEGMAFIA on production. This latest single will be featured on Brown’s forthcoming album uknowhatimsayin¿ which will be released on October 4th, via Warp Records.

This track features stellar experimental production, with wonky organ samples, which blend perfectly with the track’s traditional hip hop beat, that compliments each rapper’s style. Each rapper drops a reference to classic rappers, with Brown rapping “It was written, but the signature not legible (Nah),” in reference to Nas, El-P rapping “True doom, eat up your crew, like MM… FOOD” in reference to MF Doom, and Killer Mike rapping “I’m a P-I-M-P in my own rhyme,” in reference to 8Ball and MJG.

Brown has stated that he this latest record is intended to be a throw back to the “Greatest Rapper Ever,” era of hip hop which is generally considered to take place between the mid to late 1990s. Q-Tip the legendary rapper from A Tribe Called Quest, produced this latest record, in order to help Brown capture this style of hip hop. Q-Tip also produced the single “Best Life,” which was released last month in anticipation of the album.

Brown previously collaborated with Run The Jewels for the track “Hey Kids (Bumaye)” which was featured on Run The Jewels 3. Brown, along with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker joined Run The Jewels for a performance of the track in Los Angeles in 2017.

“There was no room for error. Q-Tip wanted me to go back to that ‘Greatest Rapper Ever’ era. I almost had to relearn how to rap again — an ego death type thing,” Brown explained in a press release. “He gave me this whole new outlook on music. I can’t go back to how I was before.”
