British rock band icons Mott the Hoople are forced to cancel their reunion tour. According to Consequence of Sound, the press release from the band revealed singer/guitarist Ian Hunter “recently developed a severe case of tinnitus and has been advised by his doctors to discontinue performing until this condition subsides.” Due to the illness, Mott the Hoople decided to cancel their upcoming tour.
Mott the Hoople is one of the greatest bands in the history of rock & roll. The band has a nasty fusion of heavy metal, glam rock and sneering cynicism that inspired countless punk bands. At the center of Mott the Hoople was lead vocalist/pianist Ian Hunter. Besides Hunter, Mott the Hoople ‘74 consists of 1974-lineup: guitarist Ariel Bender, keyboard player Morgan Fisher, guitarist James Mastro, drummer/backing vocals Steve Holley, guitarist Mark Bosch, bassist Paul Page and keyboard player/backing vocals Dennis Dibrizzi. The scheduled fall tour of Mott the Hoople ‘74 that finds their first U.S. shows in 45 years was critically acclaimed.
The first show of the tour is scheduled on October 21 at The Capitol Theater in New York. It’s not sure if the band would reschedule the tour, because no official update has been announced yet. Ticket buyers can get a refund at the point of purchase.
