Kanye West’s long awaited-project, Jesus is King, has been teased to drop today by both Kanye and Kim Kardashian-West. Kanye first announced the album back in August of 2018 under the name Yandhi, but after the album missed its first two initial drop dates in September and November under its original name, it was delayed indefinitely. But on August 29th, Kim Kardashian-West announced Jesus is King to twitter along with the release date and a picture of a hand-written tracklist. The album and date were later confirmed by Kanye West and scheduled to be released today.

But sources close to the rapper say that Kanye won’t be releasing the album today, instead, he is hosting an event tonight at Detroit’s Fox Theater called “Jesus is King: A Kanye West Experience.” Although no one is totally clear about the details regarding Kanye’s event tonight, according to representatives from the venue they say they expect it to be something like a movie.
In light of all the Jesus is King talk, Kanye held a Sunday Service today in Detroit at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheater. Kanye’s “Sunday Service” events combine his music, fashion and religion to bring to light what he calls, “a religion handcrafted for the social media age.” The first of Kanye’s Sunday Service events was held on January 6th. The location changes every week, and though not much is known about them it’s rumored to be invite-only with the requirement of signing a non-disclosure agreement. The services feature gospel-inspired remixes of classic songs in different genres as well as some of Kanye West’s biggest hits.
There has been no word whether the Sunday Services hosted by West have any correlation with his upcoming album, Jesus is King. Although there is much controversy as to whether or not Kanye is going to drop his ninth studio album tonight, one thing is for sure: those in attendance for his “Jesus is King: A Kanye West Experience” hosted event should expect to experience some sort of new Kanye West art.
