Amon Tobin Announces New Album Long Stories for October 2019 Release

Brazilian musician and electronic DJ Amon Tobin has announced his ninth studio album releasing under the name, Long Stories. The album will be the follow up to his record, Fear in Handful of Dust, which was released back in April and was his first studio album in almost 8 years. Long Stories is the musical complement to Fear in a Handful of Dust, it dives into developing more of a melodic structure rather than focusing on angular experimentation like Fear in a Handful of Dust.  A good portion of the album was made with just one instrument, a broken Omnichord. An Omnichord is an innocuous electronic musical instrument created and manufactured during the ’80s by the Suzuki Musical Instrument Corporation.

“One Shy Morning” is the first song debuted from the Brazilian DJ’s upcoming album, Long Stories. It is a track that contains all the elements of pure beauty, and is described by Tobin as, “the sound of Margot Robbie riding a unicorn into the sun right before the world explodes and all that’s left is a ghost of love.” Long Stories is set to be released on October 25th and can be pre-ordered here

2019 has been a whirlwind and prolifically wild year for the acclaimed Brazilian composer, Amon Tobin. Not only was Fear in a Handful of Dust his first studio album in eight years, but it instantly hit #1 on iTunes’ electronic chart, #1 on Bandcamp’s electronic chart, and #1 on the US college radio-electronic chart. Continuing to tour around the world under his various musical aliases, 2019 also marked the establishment of the hyper-productive musician’s own record label, Nomark. A label from which he released music from his projects, Two Fingers and Only Child Tyrant/Time to Run.

Long Stories takes simple tones and combines them with a slew of other analog processes to build these unearthly tales which take listeners on an electronic journey, unlike any other DJ. Popmatters goes as far as saying, “Amon
Tobin doesn’t just create music – he builds entire sonic galaxies.” If this album is anything like its critically acclaimed counterpart, Life in a Handful of Dust, then listeners should expect something big from this Brazilian DJ.
