American singer-songwriter Fiona Apple held a recent interview with Vulture, where she discussed her plans to release her first new album since the release of The Idler Wheel in 2012. According to the interview she was hoping to release this new album project in 2020, although the project does not have a set title or release date as of press time.
She explained that the album will likely stand on its own, rather than follow up on the themes explored with The Idler Wheel. Earlier this year she teased the possibility of an album with several home recordings.
“It’s probably its own thing. But I don’t know how to articulate that,” Apple explained in the interview. “It’s like, if you’ve been working out every day for a month and then nobody sees you, they see the difference, but if you’ve been doing it all the time, you don’t really see the difference. I can’t really know the growth or the evolution or anything like that in what I do, because I’m in the middle of it.”
Earlier this year Apple discussed her plans to donate proceeds from her single “Criminal,” to the refugee fund While We Wait, which is set up to help border detainees. She elaborated on this more during the interview with Vulture as well.
“I was looking on Twitter, which is unusual for me,” she explained. “I did a Twitter search on immigration and I found [Scott Hechinger from Brooklyn Defender Services], and this organization made the most sense for me. If I can’t get stuff in there, at least I can try and help them get out of there. When you can help and you want to, it’s really wonderful to do that.”
