Anna Wise Debuts New Single “Abracadabra” a Collaboration With Little Simz

Grammy-winning alternative R&B singer/songwriter Anna Wise debuts her latest single “Abracadabra” featuring critically acclaimed British female rapper Little Simz. Wise’s forthcoming debut album As If It Were Forever is slated for release on October 18, via Alpha Pup Records. At the moment Wise is best known for her frequent collaborations with accomplished hip hop recording artist and often revered Compton, California native, Kendrick Lamar.

The latest track “Abracadabra” showcases a melodically smooth R&B tune that features soft acoustic guitar strings. An eclectic pairing of bass and percussion follows thereafter, nicely tying together the sultry vocals at the controlled helm of Wise herself.  According to a press release, “Abracadabra” was “Produced by Gwen Bunn and Dane Orr, the single finds Wise lamenting on the fleeting nature of outside validation, bolstered by Little Simz’s poetic verse.” As If It Were Forever will feature a slew of guest collaborations from, “Little Simz, Jon Bap, Nick Hakim, Denzel Curry, Gwen Bunn, Mndsgn, Carter Lang, Jake Sherman, Pink Siifu, Sid Sriram, Jonathan Ellington, Simon Mavin, Paul Bender, Zeke Mishanec, and Dane Orr.”

Quietly building a burgeoning resume over the years leading up to her debut album Wise, according to Consequence of Sound, “…may not be a household name just yet, but it’s more than likely you’ve heard her crooning. In addition to releasing material under her Sonnymoon moniker, the alt-R&B singer has appeared on every single Kendrick Lamar album since 2012’s good kid, m.A.A.d city; she notably earned Grammy for her contributions to To Pimp a Butterfly standout “These Walls.”

The press release concludes with how Wise got her start in the music industry stating, “Leading up to her debut album, Anna Wise released five projects as part of experimental R&B bedroom pop outfit Sonnymoon before independently releasing her debut solo EP, The Feminine: Act 1, in 2016. The EP was met with praise from Pitchfork, The Fader, and more for the confrontational, viral anthem ‘BitchSlut,’ while ‘Precious Possession’ scored an unforgettable moment on Netflix’s Dear White People. Wise’s second EP, The Feminine: Act 2 followed in 2017 to features from NPR and Beats 1, with single’Some Mistakes’ hand-picked by Sir Elton John. Shows on Netflix, HBO and OWN have since utilized her contemporary sound.”
