Jeff Schroeder of Smashing Pumpkins Debuts Music Video for “Another Life” From New Group Night Dreamer

Night Dreamer is a new band which includes Jeff Schroeder (Smashing Pumpkins) and LA-based musician Mindy Song. They released a sultry new track, “Another Life” and their EP, Treasure will be released on October 11, 2019. Song’s vocals are distinct set against a steady beat and guitar solo by Schroeder mid-song.

The new album was recorded at The Cave Studio in L.A. with Josiah Mazzasch (The Jesus and Mary Chain, Built to Spill). Treasure is  described as an EP that embodies the delicate tension at the heart of Night Dreamer: a strangely potent contrast between Schroeder’s volatile guitar work and Song’s luminous vocals, giving way to a sensory experience all at once mesmeric and jarring and instantly transportive.

Schroeder commented on the new band, “Mindy and I both have a larger artistic interest that influences a lot of our ideas, and will definitely play into how we integrate music and art and moving images down the road.”

Song grew up in Orange County and learned to play piano at age four and violin at eight, later picking up the guitar, teaching herself to play drums and immersing herself in music production. She says, “For a long time I was in the orchestra environment, but once I found punk and post-punk, I realized I never wanted to be a concert violinist.” In addition to studying oil painting and creating video art, Song moved forward with her music and eventually joined L.A.-based indie-rock band Wam Dingis.

Schroeder pursued a doctoral degree in comparative literature at UCLA prior to joining Smashing Pumpkins. He also co-founded The Lassie Foundation in the mid-’90s, then joined Smashing Pumpkins in 2007. Schroeder says, “With Mindy we both have very different skill sets, but we’re able to work together and create something new out of that. She’s an amazing musician and has this voice where she can sing really pretty but also make it really gritty sometimes, and I love the way that sound melds with my guitar.”

The band will be also be performing two shows supporting Peter Hook, playing at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on October 25 and at the Metro in Chicago on November 1.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
