Joseph Arthur shared the third single “Seek and Find” from his upcoming album. Come Back World is set to release on October 11th. Featuring vocals from Patrick Carney and Greg Dulli, “Seek and Find” was dropped with an accompanying music video today.
As an acclaimed painter and designer, Arthur created the visual artwork for the “Seek and Find” music video; an abstract painting with distorted human faces provides strong imagery. The faces in the picture are all a bit melancholy. However, the song is not elegiac but more spiritual. For those who feel trapped in a dark place, Arthur sings to them “Don’t let them take your mind” and “Team up with the demons you fight. If you’re downtown keep it light.” Composed with lively guitar riffs and cheerful lyrics, “Seek and Find” is a beautiful indie-folk track where the gravelly-toned Arthur delivers a personal conversation and his encouragement to the listeners.
Come Back World follows 2018’s Arthur Buck, an album recorded with R.E.M.’s guitarist Peter Buck. The new album is lauded as “his most personal and powerful album to date,” according to a press release.
Arthur comments on the stories of our life, “the interesting parts are when all those things break down and you’re left in isolation to finally deal with the roots of whatever had been thwarting your existence all along. The interesting parts are when the world has turned its back on you and you have turned your back on it or them. When darkness could seemingly swallow you whole if it hasn’t already. When there is no such thing as hope and so you manufacture it from a dream which only angle is to survive. Come Back World is an album about rebirth and survival.”
Arthur will embark on a solo tour in Kansas City on October 4th. Coheadlining with Jesse Malin, Joseph Arthur’s Fall 2019 Tour officially kicks off at Knuckleheads on October 7th.
