Toni Cornell Shares First Original Song and One of the Last Recorded by Chris Cornell “Far Away Places”

Toni Cornell, the daughter of the late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has just released her first original song, which was one of the last tracks recorded by the late musician. The track, entitled “Far Away Places,” was produced by Chris Cornell in his home studio in February 2017, and was written by Toni Cornell when she was 12.

The track features simple instrumentation, with backing acoustic guitars, a steady bass line and simple drum beats that give the song a soft rock feel. Toni Cornell’s vocals are the highlight of the track, filled with ambition and a lot of promise, as she delivers her lyrics with intense emotion.

Toni Cornell’s first major appearance in the media happened a little over two years ago, when she introduced the world to her voice by singing a cover of the Leonard Cohen classic “Hallelujah,” during a tribute to her late father.  Cornell was only 12 during the time of this performance.

Cornell passed away on May 18th 2017 at the age of 52, while the performer was currently on tour with his band Soundgarden. His death was ruled as suicide, although his wife, Vicky Cornell, has stated that she believes that the drugs he was prescribed were a factor in his suicide.  “If Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions,” Vicky Cornell explained regarding her late husband’s death.

Vicky Cornell also spoke to Congress regarding the United States ongoing opioid crisis. Opioid overdoses have increased across the entire country in the past decade according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We must integrate addiction treatment into our health care system- no more false narratives about the need to hit rock bottom, no more secret societies, no more shame- we must educate health care providers on how to treat addiction and best support recovery,” Cornell said in her statement to Congress.
