Calexico and Iron & Wine Announce Winter 2020 Tour Dates

The band Calexico and Iron & Wine have just announced a new set of co-headlining tour dates to coincide with the release of their collaborative album Years To Burn. While their fall 2019 tour has just launched today, the group has announced a new set of winter 2020 tour dates that will begin in Chicago, Illinois and end in Madison, Wisconsin.

Sam Beam is the mind behind the Iron & Wine project, while Joey Burns and John Convertino both form Calexico as a duo. Their latest collaborative album saw the group utilize additional musicians including Paul Niehaus, Calexico trumpet player Jacob Valenzuela, along with Beam’s frequent collaborators Rob Burger, and Sebastian Steinberg on piano and bass respectively.

The band helped promote the album with their song entitled Father Mountain,” and a music video for “Midnight Sun.” The project was praised for highlighting each of the band’s respective strengths, and its unique instrumentation.

“Through the gradual building of complexity, the sound starts to layer into a tornado of instrumentation surrounding the listener. Starting with the very title, Beam, Burns and Convertino create an elusive album that leaves taste and interpretation to the listener,” Meghan Ward explained in her album review for mxdwn.com.”The ambiguity of the title Years to Burn is purposeful in regards to how an approach to life may be framed. Life is simultaneously complicated and simple, and so is this album.”
