Danny Brown is Living His “Best Life” in Subdued New Song

Detroit rapper Danny Brown has released a new track entitled “Best Life,” a new single featured on his forthcoming record uknowhatimsayin¿ which will be released next month via Warp Records. This latest single is produced by Q-Tip, of A Tribe Called Quest fame, who also serves as the executive producer on this new album.

As opposed to his earlier, more erratic synth and industrial noise inspired work that was present on his previous album, Brown takes a more traditional style hip hop approach on this new single. The production features lush soul samples, as Brown raps confidently over his verses with a call back to 1990s hip hop, and discusses the successes he has gained as he lives his “Best Life.”

This latest single highlights a new direction for Brown, who was praised for his use of innovative production and unique rapping delivery on his earlier work. His style blended elements of electronic music, industrial music, noise rock and hip hop, that made him stand out in a new era of experimental hip hop artists that range from Death Grips to JPEGMAFIA. This new release will see Brown tackle a nostalgic form of hip hop, as he blends his modern rap style with Q-Tips classic production style.

“There was no room for error. Q-Tip wanted me to go back to that ‘Greatest Rapper Ever’ era. I almost had to relearn how to rap again — an ego death type thing,” Brown explained in a press release. “He gave me this whole new outlook on music. I can’t go back to how I was before.”
