Tyler, The Creator Becomes IGOR for New “A BOY IS A GUN*” Video

Power takes on many shapes and forms, love can be one of the most dangerous. On the 16th of September, Tyler, The Creator posted a fabulous music video for his single “A BOY IS A GUN*,” from his new album IGOR on all platforms. IGOR is Tyler’s 9th official album, and it is unlike any album Tyler has produced before because it stars him as his alter ego. The stunning fantasy landscape, beautiful models and flashes of a high-scale mansion make this music video captivating. The overall authoritative message of love going away for good creates a deep-rooted sorrow overlaying the beautiful scenery. This artistic, fancy-pants version of the talented rapper even speaks French in the song. The video is a rich man’s wet dream.

Tyler’s early work was accused of featuring homophobic passages, which in one case resulted in a ban in New Zealand. After seven years of not being allowed to perform in New Zealand, his ban has been lifted. On his previous record, Flower Boy, Tyler’s lyrics have got fans speculating if the artist is gay, though it does not appear Tyler has confirmed this. “A BOY IS A GUN*” features gay romance soiled because Igor’s muse is swept away by a female. Saying, “Don’t shoot me down,” Tyler alludes to the love of a man being as dangerous as a weapon. Encapsulating the concept that men can be and are “dangerous” as Tyler sings in the song is the theme behind the video.

Tyler wears a blonde bowl cut wig during this video, one that is also worn during his video for “EARFQUAKE,” another song from IGOR, starring Tracee Ellis Ross (Diana Ross’ Daughter). Pitchfork divulged that this blonde wigged character Tyler is playing is, in fact, his alter ego who he refers to as Igor.

Tyler has always been lyrically gifted. He often says things others are afraid to say. He addresses politics, self-hate/ love, and daydreams. Those who have been listening to him since 2008 know that he has surpassed expectations and produced some serious bangers. Developing with elegance, Tyler insists on morphing creatively. This is Tyler’s defining moment in his musical career, and he is doing it with style and finesse.

Tyler will be on an international tour well into next year!

Amber Flynn: Nothing beats writing. I'm from the town of Thousand Oaks, fighting for my dream. Traveling the world, and living in tough situations broadened the horizon for my thinking. I started my education after public high school at an Adult School. I wanted to receive my certificate in Physical Therapy. Eventually, I received my certificate and it motivated me to want to help more that just an individual. Continuing my education at Moorpark College, opened my eyes to the possibility of a career in Literary Arts. After receiving my Associates Degree in English, I sent out applications to many colleges. After being accepted to ALL of the colleges I applied to, I had to make a decision. I am now a student at Loyola Marymount University, and I also work part time at a Law Firm editing legal documents.
