Neil Young and Crazy Horse debut new single “Rainbow of Colors”

It has been nearly seven years since legendary musician/songwriter Neil Young and his longtime backing band Crazy Horse have collectively released material. Young and Crazy Horse’s collaborative follow up to 2012’s albums Americana and Psychedelic Pill will be titled Colorado. The aforementioned collective’s main objective behind their latest single, and Colorado‘s second, “Rainbow of Colors” is a unified call to fight the powers that be in regards to climate change.

The folk-rock track “Rainbow of Colors” begins with ardently striking electric chords immediately following lyrics that mirror the sentiment of a powerful ballad that professes “There’s a rainbow of colors, In the old USA/
No one’s gonna whitewash, Those colors away.”

Young gives insight behind the message of “Rainbow Of Colors” that calls for unity in the struggle to properly address and call for action of leaders of the United States to take on the crisis head-on. As previously reported on Consequence of Sound, Young is no stranger to criticism of the current United States administration and specifically President Donald Trump’s “…lax position regarding the crisis.” He explained on his Neil Young Archives website,

“The idea of the song is that we all belong together. Separating us into races and colors is an idea whose time has passed. With the Earth under the direct influence of Climate Change, we are in crisis together needing to realize we are all one. Our leaders continually fail to make this point. Preoccupied with their own agendas, they don’t see the forest for the trees.”

According to Consequence of Sound Young, who lost his home in California last year due to wildfires that ravaged areas of the state, personally attacked Trump on his stance on climate change, or lack thereof, saying “Imagine a leader who defies science, saying these solutions shouldn’t be part of his decision-making on our behalf. Imagine a leader who cares more for his own, convenient opinion than he does for the people he leads. Imagine an unfit leader. Now imagine a fit one.”

Colorado is due to release October 25th via Reprise Records.
