Swedish punk-rock band, Refused, has just unleashed their furious new single, “Rev 001.” This call-to-arms song will appear on the band’s new album, War Music, which is set to be released on October 18th through Spinefire/Search & Destroy. This music video was directed by the band’s very own, Kristofer Steen, and depicts the band’s lead singer, Dennis Lyxzén, dancing his way towards revolution, battling neo-fascists in a bright cabaret of clarity and full of panache. The song’s mix of power, message and outright danceability perfectly showcase Refused’s talent for enlisting us all in their revolutionary cause one listen at a time.
The band describes the new single as a protest song with punk rock tendencies but more closely classify as “violent pop” music. “Rev 001” will really get your blood boiling and make you want to get up and dance. War Music will be the band’s 5th studio album and just 2nd album since 1998. This is the follow-up album to the band’s comeback album which peaked at number 23 on the US rock charts after about a 12-year absence from music. Refused has said this album is a straight forward declaration of the band’s unwavering political and musical philosophy.
On top of announcing their new album, the band finished up a short 8-day US tour earlier in the year and is currently on a European tour that will go through the end of December. Starting in Birmingham on October 26th, the tour will make its way around the United Kingdom before venturing into other European countries.
