Life can be perfectly imperfect at times, especially when love is brewing. Future Feats new single, “Nights Like Tonight“, echos the importance of being present. Future Feats website shares, “It’s song about having a seemingly perfect feeling ripped away from you, unexpectedly, moments before you’re allowed to truly experience the beauty of what could’ve been. It’s a way of saying that things will never be the same again”. Future Feats is a band that has been releasing music since 2012. This all male indie alternative band shines with their unique lyrics and melodies that share stories of triumph and pitfalls. Future Feats music label FADER says, “has brought their dynamic live show on national tours with artists like The Wombats, Matt and Kim, Jukebox The Ghost, The Kooks and most recently, Picture This.”
The music video posted with the song starts with a happy couple crossing the thresh hold after a romantic evening/possible wedding, that will be continued. The views of the couple together having fun are still frame as if they are memories being called upon by the lead singer. IJ Quinn III (lead singer and male star in the music video) seems to be alone in the apartment lamenting his lost lover.
“It’s about a very real night that I don’t enjoy remembering”, states the singer about the song on the Future Feats website. The video also contains a still frames of a female character snorting cocaine off of a side table wearing nothing but a white button down. This frame is accompanied with the lyrics, “You were nothing short of a miracle, to me”, while the actor plays with his wedding ring. Then we see IJ Quinn III, also exhibiting drug use (with cocaine) as well. Proving that both parties in the relationship part took in the toxicity of the dynamic.
It is clear that the relationship was unhealthy, despite all the still frames of the couple being happy together. The couple then appears to be fighting with each other until the end where IJ Quinn III, sits against the wall looking perhaps at a picture of the couple being happy; while the female character appears to be helpless behind the glass bathroom door. With her handprint spread wide on the glass, one can presume that she is either overdosing or dying. He is to distracted looking back on the past to know what is truly happening in the present. In the end, they both got hurt.This experience would be terrible to experience first had, but makes for a great black and white, alternative music video story.
