Thurston Moore has released cover of the New Order classic “Leave Me Alone,” which was originally featured on the band’s debut album Power, Corruption & Lies in 1983. This new track will serve as the B-Side for three new 7″ singles— which will be released on November 8 via Moore and Eva Prinz’s Daydream Library Series. The A-Sides for the songs will feature cuts from live sets the Thurston Moore Group played across 2019.
While the original New Order Song features new wave elements, blended with some features of post-punk that are a slight departure from many tracks featured on their synth-pop heavy debut, this new track strips back some elements. The electric guitars are replaced by acoustic guitars during the first part, which are prominent until the end when the track closes out with a heavy distorted electric guitar outro. Moore’s vocals compliment this new track, which was recorded with the help of local musicians from Salford, England.
“Salford is the only place I would dare cover a New Order song, with local musicians and local pints,” Thurston Moore explained in a new interview for The Quietus. “It was just one of those rare occasions, where something I wouldn’t normally do was done just for fun, and in homage and respect to the place.”
Moore will be releasing a new album entitled Spirit on September 21st, which will also be released on Moore and Eva Prinz’s Daydream Library Series. The performer will tour Europe and North America during the coming months.
