Up and coming indie artist Richard Dawson has announced a new album entitled 2020, and has released a new animated music video directed and animated by Lesley-Anne Rose entitled “Two Halves.” This new album will be released via Domino Records on October 11th and will feature 10 new tracks. The new album can be purchased here and streamed here upon release.
Dawson explores a soccer game on the song lyrically, which is also hinted at with the song title “Two Halves,” which is in reference to the halves played in soccer. Sonically the song takes a bare bones indie rock approach, with guitars and Dawson’s rock inspired vocals that display his British accent.
The music video features stop motion animation, featuring characters made with rubber bands and felt working away in fields. One of the characters is shown kicking a rubberband ball like a soccer ball to keep up with the themers of the song
“Football [soccer] is society in microcosm. I really love it (and hate plenty about it too) and wanted to make an album around the subject for some time. I’ve got other fish to fry though so this is just a simple song. I reckon it’s quite a happy one, despite it involving a kid having a really terrible game (in their mind at least) with their irate dad watching on. My own footballing days are lost in a haze – in my pomp I was a chiselling ‘Gattuso’-type holding-midfielder – but I’ve taken fresh inspiration from going to watch my nephew play for Wallsend Boys Club, some pleasant drizzly afternoons at Heaton Stan (behind the chip shop) and many excruciating visits to St. James Park – the cathedral of dreams.”
