Prophets of Rage Tackle Gun-Violence in New Video for “Pop Goes the Weapon”

Rock-rap supergroup Prophets of Rage are gearing up to release a follow up to their self-titled 2017 debut album. The collective recently released a music video for their latest brazenly political single “Pop Goes The Weapon”. The track highlights the social commentary of America’s obsession with gun culture and the aftermath of senseless gun violence in regards to recent mass shootings.

The revolutionary musical collective, Prophets of Rage, consists of former members of alternative rock group Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine: Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, hip-hop group Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord and rapper B-Real of Cypress Hill. The video depicts gunplay with various shots of Americans engaging in target practice at gun ranges also spliced in between these depictions are news headlines that run rampant with the lethal aftermath of recent mass shootings.

According to a press release regarding the latest music video for “Pop Goes The Weapon” the video also includes a running comprehensive list, that plays throughout the video, of 2019’s mass shootings “… (so far) including the date, location and number of those killed and injured unspool over scenes from America’s gun-obsessed culture and the blood-stained headlines generated in its aftermath. The video ends as the names of those lost recently in Gilroy, CA, El Paso, TX and Dayton, OH scroll silently by. The three mass shootings all happened within less than 10 days of each other.”

Prophets of Rage members B-Real and Tom Morello go in-depth of what the group collectively is conveying with its social commentary saying:

“’Pop Goes The Weapon’ reflects the ongoing gun violence happening in America,” states B Real. “Guns are both the subject of religious worship AND huge profits in the United States,” adds Tom Morello. “Combined with emboldened white nationalism, the recent epidemic of massacres is little surprise. ’Pop Goes The Weapon’ channels our “thoughts & prayers” through Marshall stacks & microphones.”
