mxdwn PREMIERE: Plastic Friends Are Looking For Answers on New Song “White Mirror”

Kentucky rock quartet Plastic Friends is gearing up for the release of their new EP The Lookout on Tuesday, September 10 and today we’ve got the exclusive premiere of their latest single “White Mirror.” The band, which was formed in 2011 and is influenced by groups like Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and Saves the Day, specializes in sugary-sweet guitar-pop with just enough power to get your head bobbing.

The song opens with a melodic guitar riff ala Blue Album-era Weezer, transitioning into a an arpeggiated guitar riff and then chugging, palm muted notes. Over a ripping guitar solo from lead guitarist Matt Long, vocalist Will Perkins takes on a more dramatic tone than in the bopping chorus. Meanwhile, bassist Phillip Rynerson and drummer Nate Harrison hold down the rhythm section of this mid-tempo song.

The Lookout EP is a snapshot of the material that Plastic Friends has been working on since releasing Information,” said Perkins. “We decided to narrow down our new songs and release an EP. While there are still elements of Information, we feel like this recording also takes our sound in a direction that tries to better capture our live performance.”

According to Perkins, the inspiration for the new release comes from a feeling that this is “a dark time for truth and integrity in our society. I think it’s more important than ever that we have watchdogs to hold those in power accountable for their actions. As corruption runs rampant, we need a lookout to help hold up the lowest levels of our society, which are the ones who are suffering the most.”

“Just go about your day and stare at a mirror instead of a microscope,” he said. “Listen to what you are told and don’t question anything. But I encourage you to think for yourself and love thy neighbor.”
