Pop artist Grimes has another promotional update for her upcoming album Miss_Athrop0cene, which is set to be released later this year. This time, the singer has teamed up with DJ and EDM producer i_o for “Violence,” a new single off the album, which also has an accompanying music video.
The track features strong synth sounds, that compliment Grimes’ vocal range and tone, which she utilizes to its fullest extent on this latest song. “Violence,” shows many sword wielding women throughout the video, while the set pieces are arranged to appear identical to classical Greek and Roman architecture, with podiums and classical staircases.
Grimes has stated that this new album will tackle various themes that she has yet to explore yet, most notably climate change. In June the artist stated that the album is currently being mixed, indicating that her promise of a 2019 release remains very likely.
“I want to make climate change fun. People don’t care about it, because we’re being guilted,” she stated in an interview earlier this year. “I see the polar bear and want to kill myself. No one wants to look at it, you know? I want to make a reason to look at it. I want to make it beautiful.”
She also explained that she will be disregarding her past work, and focus on a new form of creativity, stating:
“It will be a public execution followed by—by something else. I shouldn’t say yet.I’m super bound by the limits I’ve set for myself [with Grimes]. It would be easier for me if I wasn’t stuck with the branding I made in 2009, you know?”
