Synth pop icon Gary Numan is set to have archival versions of two of his Tubeway Army albums, Replicas, and The Pleasure Principle, re-released on October 11th via Beggars Banquet Recordings. These two albums will feature a plethora of demos and new material from the synth pop icon and his legendary new wave and electronic band.
“While both of these albums have remained in print, these releases concentrate on the early recordings made prior to the completed albums and present the evolution of the albums. The tracks have been sequenced as they appeared on the original tapes and the audio has been taken from the high resolution digital transfers made by John Dent in 2007,” a press kit for the album states. “One of the Freerange studio tapes suffered irreparable print through damage on two tracks so they were not used in the 2009 release. However an alternative source has been located so the tapes can now be presented as complete for this release.”
While the Tubeway Army disbanded in 1979, they were influential in helping form Numan’s sound, and its members even served as part of Numan’s backing band during some live performances during his latter career. Numan is still going strong, and is currently touring this year.
