mxdwn PREMIERE: Venus Furs Channel Classic British Guitar-Rock on New Single “Guards in the Garden”

Montreal musician Paul Kasner’s latest project is Venus Furs — he’s been working on music for the band’s first LP for the last five years and touring under the name since 2018. With a self-produced album tentatively scheduled for release in 2020, we’re excited to premiere the latest single from Venus Furs, a British Invasion and Britpop inspired song called “Guards in the Garden.” The song is a complex composition, weaving acoustic and electric guitars with a dramatic horn section, giving it a touch of bombast.

“Absorb and lose yourself in the layers of music. After five years of work with Seratone Studio’s Simon Petraki, I’m gearing up to release the debut, self-produced Venus Furs LP in 2020,” said Kasner. “‘Guards in the Garden’ is the newest single to be heard from the album. Inspired by 60s and 90s Britrock, as well as Motown, the lyrics to “Guards in the Garden” unfolded through stream-of-consciousness writing and took inspiration from windy late night drives and decaying urban infrastructure. ‘Guards in the Garden’ is one of the album’s two tracks with a brass section – a real treat to record, and mixed to encapture retro vibes.”
