British indietronica act Metronomy have released a new track entitled “Wedding Bells,” off of their forthcoming record, Metronomy Forever which will be released on September 13th via Because Music Records. A lyric video for the new track directed, produced and edited by Ben Hanratty has also been released.
This new song features a lot of nostalgia for new wave, blending upbeat synths and rhythms blended in together with some simple rock guitar chords, that are inspired by classic John Hughes films from the 1980s. The video shows the songs lyrics on a variety of formal wedding cards, to match with the song’s theme.
Metronomy Forever was inspired by the band’s frontman Joseph Mount, who transitioned away from the urbanity of Paris, to the English countryside. Lyrically many of the songs are set to focus on this transition, and Mount’s reflections during his time away from urban life.
“What happens is when you’re making music and you enter a world where you have achieved some sort of celebrity no matter how large or small you start to think about yourself in terms of legacy and what you’re going to leave behind and then you realise that’s limited to the interest people have in you,” Mount stated in a press release. “In the end I feel completely comfortable with it. The less importance you place in any art the more interesting it can become in a way…I’m making music, I’m going to do some concerts, I need to feed my children.”
