Synth pop band Future Islands have been relatively quiet regarding news of any upcoming projects, however during a performance in North Hampton, Massachusetts the group debuted seven new tracks, out of a set list of 22 songs. These tracks were titled:”Hit the Coast”, “The Painter”, “Born in a War”, and “Thrill”. Other reported songs named “B. Ham”, “Moonlight”, and “Plastic Beach.”
The group’s most recent album The Far Field, which was released back in 2017, featured many drops of nostalgia, blending in the group’s love of 1980s new wave and the early synth sounds into their music.
While the band have not released any material besides “Calliope” back in 2018, they have been touring pretty frequently in the time frame between this last album, and any other upcoming project. Last year the group ventured on a massive 44 date tour, stopping at various cities across Europe and North America.
“I don’t really have a ‘happy place’; a happy memory is also something you long for, something that’s not there, so I don’t really have them,” frontman Samuel Herring stated in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I go to the coast when I’m home and it makes me feel like a kid again. It’s beautiful to hear the sounds, to smell it… But it all becomes the longing for something that’s not there. My happiest place in this world is the stage. That’s where I have purpose. It’s what makes me know I deserve to be – not that I need to be – on this earth.”
