mxdwn PREMIERE: DEYO Is Vulnerable on New Song “Can’t Shake You”

New York singer-songwriter DEYO has a self-titled LP coming out later this month, which has already seen the release of one single, “digital,” featuring the musician’s brother Nicholas Braun of the HBO show Succession. Today, we’re excited to premiere the latest song from the album, a slow-burning piano-led piece of indie-soul. It features a plucky piano line supplemented with funky guitar riffs and soaring slide guitar. “I can’t shake you baby / until the day I die” sings DEYO with his blue-eye soul influenced delivery.

“It’s a true story,” said DEYO. “I wrote the song about a forbidden love, and then I immediately forgot about it. I found the voice memo about a year later and changed the words around to reflect what had actually happened in the meantime. It’s probably the most vulnerable song that I have ever shared with anyone. Piano based Alt-pop song with some beautiful production twists and turns.”

DEYO was written by the musician in a small apartment in San Francisco – he performed the majority of the instruments on the record. It was co-produced and mixed by Jeremy Black, engineered by Howard Bilerman and features multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin.
