Lana Del Rey has released music video for her track “Doin’ Time,” which pays homage to the classic Sublime song of the same name, which itself references the classic jazz standard “Summertime.” This time the singer has released another homage to the classic Hollywood horror film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, which follows the themes of nostalgia that are present in her upcoming album Norman Fucking Rockwell.
The video shows the singer waking up near downtown Los Angeles, before walking down the streets of the central hub, passing through the city’s famous skyscrapers. A couple is then shown at a drive in, where the singer’s rampage across the city is shown, which run co-currently with the collapse of the relationship mentioned in the song and music video, following the themes of this Hollywood classic.
Last week Del Rey released a joint music video for two of her tracks, “Fuck it I love you” and “The greatest” which feature the city of Long Beach, California extensively, which it also references within its own lyrics. This latest song which channels the Long Beach ska punk legends Sublime, also references the city directly by sampling one of the verses from the original “Doin’ Time.”
Norman Fucking Rockwell is set for a release tomorrow, and will be the singer’s sixth studio album overall, following her 2016 album Lust for Life. Many of the singles off of this album channel classic Californian nostalgia, which are a departure from her own upbringing in the state of New York.
