Devon Welsh Announces Fall 2019 Tour Dates

Devon Welsh has released a new batch of North American tour dates beginning this fall. The tour will kick off Nov. 2 in Chicago, IL and will make its way to Nashville, Boston, Seattle, and Portland, with it scheduled to end Nov. 22 in Santa Cruz, CA. Fellow musicians Abandon, The Daguerreotypes, and Sorry Girls will open for Welsh on select dates. Tickets can be purchased here and check out the full list of shows below.

The tour is in support of Welsh’s upcoming solo album True Love, with an Oct. 11 release date via his own record label You Are Accepted. According to PitchforkTrue Love serves as Welsh’s sophomore solo release, following his 2018 critically-acclaimed debut album Dream Songs. Welsh has discussed the new album, with it looking at every angle of love. “As you get older, love becomes so much stranger than the childhood fantasy versions of yearning and desire.” He continues saying, “Romance can be such a scary thing because there’s so much trust involved – sitting with uncertainties and reservations, taking a longer look at emotions, trying to understand them. But there’s a deepening of love, which is the energy that holds people together.”

Welsh also reflects on how masculinity plays a role with love. “The male stereotype is that you’re not supposed to cry, you’re supposed to be strong and confident and powerful. That feeds into a masculine identity where you can’t look inward and figure out: Who am I that’s distinct from that?”

Welsh is also a former member of the electropop duo Majical Cloudz, who disbanded in 2016. The duo cited “creative differences” as the reason for parting ways. The second half of the band, Matthew Otto, had a sexual assault allegations against him, which Welsh responded to, saying he believed the accuser. In a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), Welsh stated “Long story short, I believe the accuser absolutely and I’m very aware of how his behavior has been distressing and obnoxious at recent shows… My relationship with him has been troubled for multiple reasons, a lot of them are personal so I don’t want to go into them in public here.”
