Canadian Indie Rock Band, The New Pornographers, debut their vibrant new single “The Surprise Knock.” This unique band has creative outlook on how it describes its musical collective: consisting of multiple singer-songwriters and musicians from different projects, each member’s creativity shines in through their music. “The Surprise Knock” is actually the second single released from the band’s upcoming album, In the Morse Code of Brake Lights, which is set to be released on September 27th through Collected Works Media.
The song starts with a space-like feel before abruptly exploding into a fast-paced acoustic guitar riff with modern Beach Boys sounding doo-wop. The progression of the song bleeds through with the introduction of the electric guitar, which is followed by a mellow break in the action that makes way for a beautiful build-up right back into the chorus. The initial recording for the song was said to have a much different feel by A.C Newman of The New Pornographers, after listening to the song a couple of times he went to the band with the idea of re-recording the song with “that 2005 New Pornographers sound” and the final product is precisely that.
In the Morse Code of Brake Lights will be The New Pornographers eighth studio album, and the second one released via Concord Music Group’s, Collected Works Media. On top of their album being released the band has also announced a tour which will be its first proper outing in over two years. The group will hit the stage with Lady Lamb and will start on August 17th and wrap up in Atlanta on November 12th. The tour dates and locations are listed below.
