Alt-country artist Cass McCombs and country artist Wynonna Judd have announced a joint musical project called The Frothy Pit, which is scheduled to make its first appearance at ANTI- Records Label Showcase AMERICANAFEST 2019, on September 12th.
Earlier this year Judd signed to ANTI- Records, and released an acapella cover of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” The singer-songwriter also wrapped up an early winter tour earlier this year, which saw her perform at various locations across the US.
“Getting the chance to work with Cass is exciting new territory for us,” Wynonna Judd stated in a press release. “We couldn’t think of a better way to debut this musical collaboration than AMERICANAFEST.”
McCombs performed at the Marfa Myths festival in Marfa, Texas earlier this year alongside other artists such as Deerhunter and Khruangbin. According to a press release, the event is “known for bringing together a diverse range of emerging and established artists working creatively and collaboratively across music, film, and the visual arts.”
Earlier this year, McCombs released his latest project Tip Of The Sphere, which was also released through the ANTI- Records label. This album was noted for returning some of his stylistic writing qualities, and blending it with his nuanced songwriting that has garnered a strong fan base.
“I actively avoid overarching themes or narratives. It’s challenging, because you do something and it seems successful—either personally or professionally,” McCombs explained in a Fader interview. “You might have the temptation to repeat that in another way. I’ve learned that’s an impossibility. It’s more exciting and fun to do new things.”
