Seth Hurwitz, who promotes and co-owns a series of clubs in the Washington D.C. area, has been charged with solicitation of prostitution from a massage therapist at her business. Hurwitz was arrested by police after sting operation was set up following an alleged altercation that occurred last week at the same place of business where he was arrested today. A major figure in the D.C. entertainment business, Hurwitz has ownership over a variety of properties, including 9:30 Club, the Anthem and Merriweather Post Pavilion. Hurwitz recently used his position at the Merriweather Post Pavilion to host the now cancelled Woodstock 50 festival, one of the last efforts by the organizers to continue the event.
According to a statement made by the Montgomery County Police Department, Hurwitz first began his alleged sexual harassment of the victim at a massage appointment last week, leading the victim to feel uncomfortable and end the session early. Hurwitz then found the masseuse’s business phone number and allegedly proceeded to contact her asking for sexual favors in exchange for money. The victim notified the police, who then began their investigation. A sting operation was set up in which Hurwitz was told to meet the victim at her place of business in order to catch him. Once Hurwitz arrived, the police made the arrest and charged him with solicitation of prostitution. Hurwitz was released later in the day after posting his $5,000 bail. The authorities are also still investigating the possibility of more victims of Hurwitz at this time due to comments he made about arrangements with other women.
