Killswitch Engage have just unveiled their latest music video for “The Signal Fire” from their new album Atonement, which has just been released off Metal Blade Records. For the first time in the band’s history, the band’s current and former frontman, Jesse Leach and Howard Jones respectively appear on this new track and trade vocals in the music video directed by longtime Killswitch Engage fan Ian McFarland.
This simple yet electrifying video shows the two vocalists handing off their singing duties, as the track plays aggressively on. This heavy metal track consists of shredding vocal performances, guitar riffs, and aggressive drums throughout its barely over three minute time.
Leach originally left Killswitch Engage for around a decade in 2002, to rejoin with the group in 2012 after the departure of Jones. Leach explained that he was undergoing depression when he left the band, something which Jones was also a victim of during his departure in 2012. Jones still makes music to this day however, serving as the former vocalist for Blood Has Been Shed, and as the current vocalist of Light the Torch.
Both of the vocalists have a great amount of respect for each other, with both commenting positively on one another in various interviews.
“This video is a demonstration of solidarity and unity,” Leach stated in a press release. “This is for the fans and this is our testimony to all who see this video. In these times we live in, I believe this is an important message — not just for us as a band and our fans but for all of humanity. This is a call for compassion and understanding! There is strength in unity.”
Both artists had a fun time making the music video as well with Leach stating:
“The making of the video was a great experience as well. Just all of us guys hanging out and having fun together. Ian McFarland did a hell of a job capturing the vibe and energy of our performances.”
Jones further elaborated in a press release stating:
“It was another silly day at the office. Good food, lots of wrestling talk, and hanging with the boys is a great way to spend the day and get a little work done. Shout out to Ian McFarland for making everything painless at the shoot. The day was all smiles — with a hint of metal.”
