mxdwn PREMIERE: frogi Creates Ethereal Folk Pop on New Song “moonlight”

frogi is the latest entry of young women creating groudbreaking, idiosyncratic alternative pop. Her last two singles “peace of mind” and “time” have been making waves and today we’re excited to premiere her latest track, “moonlight.”

The song is built around a vocal-sampling beat that brings back memories of Maggie Rogers debut “Alaska,” with finger snaps and handclaps and a touch of tropical influence adds color to the sparse instrumentation. frogi’s vocals stand front and center, singing “keep me in the moonlight” and “hold me close / no I won’t let go” in earworm of a chorus.

“I wrote moonlight when I was thinking about the teenaged version of myself,” said frogi. “It’s about being in love with the idea of someone rather than the actual person. That someone is unattainable or someone who you want purely because you can’t have them. It’s about the power of fantasy and how we can create these totally imagined versions of people because it comforts us. I was the queen of imagination as a teen, and would often create these worlds in my head that made me feel okay. There’s some comfort in delusion when reality isn’t all that great.”
