Following the release of much of their discography to streaming services, the rock band Tool has become the first act to ever hold all of the top 10 spots on Billboard’s Rock Digital Songs Sales chart. The fan favorite group is planning on releasing their newest album later this month, putting their discography online for the first time just few weeks prior. Tool has been around since the 1990s, but have not released an album in over a decade. Now that the group has brought their music to a larger audience, buzz around the new album is at an all time high. The band has seen large success regarding overall sales since their albums have entered the streaming catalog, with Tool currently having four albums and an EP charting on the Billboard 200 chart.
Tool has been around for quite some time, but has been relatively removed from new audiences due to the band not having digital releases. Now it is easy to see how popular the group is even today, with their album AEnima cracking the top 10 most sold albums over 20 years after its release. The other albums that are charting are Lateralus, 10,000 Days, and Undertow, which are ranked 16, 18 and 19 respectively. All of these projects are over decade old and all made it into Billboard’s top 20 just weeks after their streaming release. The band’s Opiate EP is also charting, coming in at number 59.
This week Tool also made Billboard history by becoming the first group to ever hold all 10 of the top digital rock song sales, led by the track “Sober” from the album Undertow and the band’s new song “Fear Inoculum.” The song is the first new track from the group in 13 years and comes in at 10 minutes and 22 seconds long. “Fear Inoculum” also makes history by itself, as it became the longest song to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The song debuted at number 93 this week, also becoming the first ever song of 10 minutes to make it onto the chart. The track is the first single off of the band’s upcoming album, Fear Inoculum, which is set to be released on August 30th.
