Yesterday legendary alternative singer Peter Murphy was rushed to the hospital due to shortness of breath, causing his concert at Le Poisson Rouge to be cancelled. Today it’s been determined that the singer suffered a heart attack.

The cardiologist that treated Murphy at Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Jason Song, MD, issued the following statement through the singer’s representatives:

“Mr. Murphy was admitted for treatment of a myocardial infarction. He had two stents placed in his right coronary artery and was started on medications to manage his heart condition. Due to HIPAA regulations we cannot reveal further details of his condition. He is still in the hospital for continued monitoring of his condition.”

As a result, he’s postponed the dates of his residency at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge. The dates are August 15th, 16th, 18th and 19th. The remaining four dates will be rescheduled to an as-yet-undetermined time. Ticketholders can either have their tickets transferred to the rescheduled show or get a refund by emailing the venue at info@lprnyc.com by August 30, 2019. On each night of his residency, he would play an entire solo album in full. He was able to complete the majority of the residency, with shows on Aug 2 (Should The World Fail To Fall Apart), Aug 3 (Love Hysteria), Aug 5 (Deep), Aug 8 (Holy Smoke), Aug 9 (Cascade), Aug 10 (Dust) and Aug 12 (Ninth).

Murphy’s family also issued a statement: “We would like to thank the fans for their undying support and hope that Peter will be back on stage with a refreshed heart, stronger than before!”

“All of us at LPR are devastated by this news,” read a statement from Le Poisson Rouge. “Peter’s performance and presence over the past twelve days has been amazing – both onstage and off. We wish Peter a swift and full recovery and look forward to his successful return to LPR.”

Though for completely different reasons, this isn’t the first time Murphy has had a residency postponed. In 2018 he postponed dates for his San Francisco residency at The Chapel due to visa issues. The rescheduled dates were announced about month later.
