Drummer Janet Weiss has had to cancel her upcoming tour with her band Quasi following a car accident in which she had her leg and collarbone broken. While the former Sleater-Kinney drummer sustained serious injuries from the accident, she is expected to make full recovery. In a post made on Twitter yesterday morning, Weiss wrote that she would be out of commision for around twelve weeks and unable to perform at the Quasi tour that was slated for this October. Weiss had just announced the tour a few weeks ago, which had been set to coincide with Sleater-Kinney’s upcoming tour. The drummer’s split from the group a little over a month was said to be due to a change in direction of the group, with both sides wishing the other the best.
Weiss had recently recorded with Sleater-Kinney for their new album The Center Won’t Hold, which is due out this week. The longstanding punk rock trio have been excited to share this new project with fans, revealing earlier this year that the album would be produced by St. Vincent. Last month, however, Weiss announced she would be leaving the group after some hard thinking. The band had previously announced a tour, which will occur at the same time Quasi’s was supposed to. While there was seemingly no ill will between Weiss and her former bandmates, fans were sad to see her go.
The drummer was originally planning on spending her time focusing on Quasi, but now will have to put that on hold as she recovers from the accident. The car accident broke the musician’s right leg and left collarbone, making the cancellation of Quasi’s tour necessary for her to recover. In her post on Twitter, Weiss wrote that she was sorry to fans for cancelling the shows, but that she hopes to be back to playing within a few months. Weiss added that she was extremely grateful that the injuries were not more severe and that she had a good team of doctors and supporters. Hopefully Weiss will recover as soon as possible and Quasi will be able to perform again soon.
