Mike Posner Vows to Continue Cross-Country Walk As He Recovers From Rattlesnake Bite

Mike Posner’s cross-country walk doesn’t derail! The Grammy-nominated pop-rapper decide to continue his goal after recovering from a rattlesnake bite, Billboard reports.

At the beginning of this year, Mike released video premiere of “Move On,” which announces his 9-month, 3,000-mile hike from Asbury Park, New Jersey, to Venice Beach, California. “Move On” is one of the tracks from Posner’s recent album, A REAL GOOD KID,  expressing his motivation behind “The Walk.” Posner’s father died for cancer in 2017, and year later, he lost his friend Avicii who committed suicide.

It’s been the fourth month since Posner hit the road. Last Wednesday, Posner passed the midpoint of the country – from Kansas into Colorado. He had already racked up 16 miles on the day with a goal of 8 more but unfortunately got bit by a baby rattler. Posner’s feet turned swelling by the venom. Thanks to receiving the anti-venom in time, his life was not in danger. He commented on Instagram:

“Crazy day yesterday! I had just crushed 16 miles and was going for 8 more when I got bit by a baby rattlesnake! –,” he added, “That venom is no joke! I got to the hospital and got the anti-venom in time. Shout outs to G and Mike from the chopper team — and Bo and Cassie and Whitney (my nurses). I’ll be here a few days and will not be able to walk for several weeks but enjoying the AC and the nice bed, haven’t had those in a while Hahahaha! Can’t wait to get back on The Walk! KEEP GOING!!!!!!”

After that, Posner posted a video on Saturday, in which he was getting help from a nurse to try to make his move very carefully. He says, “From 24 miles per day to using this walker to get to the bathroom. I’m on my way back. Gonna rebuild with patience and equanimity. HUGE shout outs to Stephanie, Fergie, Bo, Angie, Eddie, mike, dr black, dr van Birmingham, dr Gordon, dr Shapiro, Natalie, Carol, Megan, Jeremy, and my whole family in ICU. Molly and her husband from PT are gonna come help me walk again tomorrow. KEEP GOING.”

It’s obviously the baby rattlesnake didn’t stop him; he posted a hospital bed freestyle three days after the bite, saying “if he’s been missing out on life by obsessing over social media before realizing that’s he’s become everything he is by everything he’s gone through.” Posner also comforts the crowd:

“I knew walking across America was going to be dangerous. I knew I could die doing it. I still might. So don’t feel sorry for me. I’m proud I’m in this hospital after chasing my dream and not sitting on the couch watching Netflix. I’m proud of this pain. If you understand this message, do not leave me sympathy comments, just write KEEP GOING.”

Posner soon dropped another hospital freestyle, check out the video below.

Posner alleged, “The Walk” was one of his bucket lists “for years and years.” His father’s death in 2017, and the fact that his friend Avicii committed suicide in 2018 are two major forces to evoke him to put into action, and it turns out to become his priority right now.

“I feel everyone has a list of things they’d like to do in life and then a list of things they have to do,” Posner said. “After (the deaths) I realized I couldn’t wait to do these things I had to do on that list. I’d been putting (the walk) off for years and years and years. The time is now.”

While Posner was heading to Colorado, his new single titled “Prince Akeem” featuring Wiz Khalifa was released. LISTEN HERE.
