Rap collective Beast Coast had to cancel their concert in Sterling Heights, Michigan last night following multiple threats of violence made to the venue. The concert was set to take place at the Lottery Amphitheatre and was the group’s only scheduled concert in Michigan. The show, which was part of the group’s first ever tour, was cancelled following two calls made to the venue threatening gun violence at the show. Originally, they had planned on simply beefing up security, however the show ultimately was called off in order to ensure everyone’s safety. In a post made to Twitter, the venue stated that refunds would be available to those who had purchased tickets.
Beast Coast is a relatively new group that consists of a variety of rappers, including the group Flatbush Zombies. Other members of Beast Coast include Joey Badass, Nyck Caution and Kirk Knight, who were all also members of the New York based Pro Era collective. The group released their first album, which was titled Escape From New York, earlier this year before beginning on their current tour. The project was teased prior to its release with the singles “Left Hand,” “Coast/Clear” and “Snow In The Stadium.” After the project was dropped in May, the collective began touring across the United States and Canada on their aptly named Escape From New York Tour. The tour has included dates in Los Angeles, Seattle and New York, with shows in Boston and Chicago coming up soon.
The threats on the Michigan concert were made directly to the venue over the phone, with officials still working on figuring out who placed the calls. The decision to cancel the show altogether was made just a few hours before the concert was set to start, leaving fans who had come a long way to see Beast Coast out of luck. The local police department had already sent extra officers to the venue for security before the final decision was made to cancel the concert. Hopefully within the next few days officials will have more details as to who placed the calls and what their goal was.
